STRAFFORD SCHOOL BOARD (cont.)

Strafford School is located on 22 Roller Coaster Road in Strafford, NH; a rural community with a population of approximately 4,000. The school has an enrollment of approximately 435 students with 84 administrative, teaching, paraprofessional, and support staff. All staff members have achieved HQT (highly qualified) status as mandated by No Child Left Behind legislation. Strafford School is considered to be one of the top performing schools in the state.

Imagine a school where scores reflect the outstanding efforts made by our teachers and our students as well as the community. Strafford School is that school.

The Strafford School Board would like to congratulate the Strafford School students, who strive for excellence; our dedicated staff, who create classrooms where learning is embraced; parents, who instill in their children the importance of education; finally, our wonderful Strafford community members, who, despite economic difficulties, support and value education. This recognition of excellence in education belongs to all of you.

Upcoming Events & Announcements: Elementary School Concert will be held on May 2, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.; Chorus Concert will be held on May 16, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.; Band Concert will be held on May 30, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Strafford resident, Bill Vance recently approached the School Board with the environmentally friendly idea of collecting compostable material from the school lunch refuse. This could reduce landfill use and cost to the town for trash removal as well as providing a learning experience for the students. We are asking local farmers and the community to contact Bill Vance at 664-9377 to participate.

The Strafford School Wellness Committee is interested in creating a school vegetable garden to provide fresh, local produce to our students for lunch and possibly to the community through food pantry donations. We are looking for individuals to help us with this project and material donations to build a few raised beds. Please contact Debbi Hinrichsen at 664-2203.Dawn Small, co-chair of the Wellness Committee, is forming a Local Produce Buying Club or a Community Supported Agriculture Group. If interested, contact Dawn Small at 269-0197.
