16th ANNUAL NATIONAL FOOD DRIVE
SATURDAY, MAY 10, 2008
(continued)
The USDA released some disturbing statistics recently which
included that millions of Americans are making decisions
between housing, utilities, medicine and the most basic
necessity – food. In the United States 1 in 6 children do
not always know where they’ll find their next meal. The US
Census Bureau estimates 3.4 million seniors were living in
poverty. Nutrition is a key component to a healthy and
productive life for seniors. The importance of nourishment
is especially crucial for seniors because of their increased
vulnerability to illness.The
following are examples of non-perishable items needed:
Cereal, baking products, (cake/brownie mix), and canned
goods (soups, meat/fish, vegetables). Also needed are
personal care products and paper towels.
The residents of Strafford have been very generous in the
past; and all the employees at the Strafford Post Office
look forward to making this year’s food drive a success! |
